The Relationship Between the Search
Engines, and Ways to Get Listed When all Your Past Attempts
Have Failed.
Netscape - So you want a Listing in Netscape
Pay for inclusion in Google, rank highly in Google to be
a part of their primary results, or rank highly in DMOZ to
be a part of their primary directory results to be potentially
indexed by Netscape. Or you can backend through DMOZ to Google
and then potentially be indexed by Netscape.
Lycos - So you want a Listing in Lycos
Pay for inclusion in Google, rank highly in DMOZ to be a
part of their directory results, or rank highly in fast to
be part of their primary results to be potentially indexed
by Lycos. Backdoor listing through DMOZ will not help you
here. Google only sends Lycos their paid inclusions, not their
primary results.
DMOZ - So you want a Listing in DMOZ
Work hard, make your site compelling, make sure you submit
it to the proper topic at DMOZ, and make sure you provide
content the editors think their visitors will want. There
is no easy or quick fix way to get indexed here. It's going
to take work and research to find out what your site needs
to entice the editors to index you. Start by doing a search
at DMOZ on keyword searches you want your site to show up
in results. Then go look at the sites, and see what they have
to offer. I would not suggest a "copycat" approach
here. You want to be similar so that you list, but you also
want to be unique enough to get them to index you. If they
already have a million sites listed in that category, then
why list yours? Originality of the topic and the way it is
presented is key. It also helps if your content is your own,
and not a boiled down version or a repeat of some other site
on the net. Remember, your hard work rewards you with a platinum
listing in the end. The choice is up to you. Note that such
legwork with other search engines provides you with the potential
of better search rankings there.
Iwon-Search - So you want a Listing in iwon-Search
Pay for inclusion in Google, rank highly in Google to be
a part of their primary results, or rank highly in DMOZ to
be a part of their primary directory results to be potentially
indexed by iwon-Search. Or you can backend through DMOZ to
Google and then potentially be indexed by iwon-Search.
Inktomi - So you want a Listing in Inktomi
This is going to be a short answer. I'll pick no bones about
it either. If you want a listing in Inktomi, then you are
going to have to pay for it. The choice becomes how much you
want to pay for it. You can become a member of scrubtheweb
and have the ability to submit to Inktomi and pay $29.95 -
$49.95 a year (depending on what promotional they are running
at that time) for unlimited URL's. Or you can go to one of
Inktomi's partners and pay as much as $79.00 a year for just
ONE URL. The choice is up to you.
Yahoo - So you want a Listing in Yahoo
Pay for inclusion in Overture , or rank highly in Google to
be a part of their primary results. Or you can backend through
DMOZ to Google and then potentially be indexed by Yahoo.
Fast - So you want a Listing in Fast
This is going to be another short answer. They are the same
as DMOZ, but without the human element. Treat them the same
way, and work hard on your pages.
Overture - So you want a Listing in Overture
Rank highly in Inktomi to be a part of their secondary results
to be potentially indexed by Overture .
Looksmart - So you want a Listing in Looksmart
Rank highly in Inktomi to be a part of their secondary results
to be potentially indexed by looksmart.
Alltheweb - So you want a Listing in Alltheweb
Pay for inclusion in Overture .
MSN - So you want a Listing in MSN
Pay for inclusion in Overture , rank highly in Inktomi to
be a part of their secondary results and gain two shots at
possibly being indexed by MSN. If you accomplish the second
goal, Inktomi also provides their secondary results to looksmart.
Looksmart also provides their primary results to MSN.
Alta Vista - So you want a Listing in Alta Vista
Pay for inclusion in Overture , or rank highly in DMOZ to
be a part of their primary directory results to be potentially
indexed by Alta Vista.
